Ramadhan Market

It is 12 days into Ramadhan today, Alhamdulillah. Normally every year of Ramadhan, we will take time to eat outside, namely to hotels or the restaurant, or we will go to the Ramadhan market to buy some food to be eaten at home. This time round things have been different, we do not miss eating outside at all, and the only time that we had iftar outside was during the invitation of my daughter-in-law.

I do not want to deny my two princesses anything that they might desire to eat from the Ramadhan market, however no matter how many times I ask them, they will give me the same answer that they are not interested to eat food from there. This is because we have all become so paranoid to the quality of the food being sold there, the cleanliness is questionable, the people who are selling as well as cooking are mainly immigrants, and the price is getting so ridiculous.

Ramadhan markets sprout out uncontrollably every year during the Ramadhan month. The illegal stalls are as many as those approved by the authorities. It seems like the authorities forgot the reason why this month is deemed a holy month, are we taught not to waste, not to splash out unnecessarily, not to overdo anything in life, and not to cheat in business.

By authorizing Ramadhan markets unsupervised, we are again being cheated by the authority. The choice is ours really, either we swim with them or we are brave enough to go against the wave by not supporting Ramadhan markets.
