Doctors' Attitude

How often do you go to the doctors? For my family it is often enough. With three kids still under my care, hubby and me, we do have our routine visits to the doctors. Along the way, we have encountered doctors with attitude.

I can still recall an incident when I was away from the country, and my second girl was suffering from Gout attack. My son and his girlfriend (my present daughter-in-law) had to take her to the doctor in SJMC, because this is the hospital that we trusted most (of course at that moment). She was under the care of a so call `Datok Dr……..’, you will think that he has to be one hell of a doctor or either the Datokship must have been bought like the norm of others.

The first thing that he did was to send my daughter for an MRI which cost nearly RM2,000, and some medication which did not help much. On my return I took her for the follow-up, this is when I just lost my respect for that institution. The appointment was at 0900 hours, we were there by 0845 hours. The appointed time passed, still no sign of him, after waiting for an hour, and despite the nurse’s assurance that he is on the way, I decided to write a very nasty note to him. By virtue of coincidence as soon as we left to go see another doctor on a different floor he came. He read the note and called me immediately.

I can still remember my last words to him was, it is people like us who keep your pay cheques coming, we are not beggars, and wish not to be treated as such. You have given the appointed time then you bloody stick with it, and I closed the line. After which the nurse came down to apologize and told me that the doctor was so sorry, and he would like to make up for his mistake. Of course, I decline, my pride is bigger then the whole universe and there is always a better doctor.

From then on, I have slowly moved all our medical consultations to Damansara Specialist, another private hospital. Alhamdulillah, I am happy with the doctors’ attitude there, they are more human, respect you as their patient, less arrogant, and keep up to timeliness.

It is upsetting to know that the medical institution has gone from bad to worse, most doctors are playing god, they have no human relations, zero etiquette and talk rubbish most of the time. Do I trust the institution here? No, but for those really close to my heart especially Dr. Daud and Dr. Rajis. I hope they will stay forever in this institution.

I would conclude that most of the doctors showed negative attitude towards the service orientation of the medical service be it in the private or public sectors.
