Interviewing candidates for vacancies can be very interesting, tiring as well as boring, especially when you are attached with a mega organization, and constantly in the look for the best candidate. You can straight away discard the smooth talker and don’t waste too much time on them. Finally when the best 3 candidates have been identified, I will normally make sure that the certificates attached are true, it is not me to check about reference (I don’t believe in this). More than often, candidates were caught red handed when cross check was done with the University. It’s amazing, how daring these candidates can be and when confronted they just casually admit, we bought the certificates, so what? And walked out.
Once, I even sweet talked a candidate to show me where he got his certificate (which apparently was from a very famous University in India), he took me to this little shop in Sharjah where the printing was done. I stood there helpless and watched as certificate after certificate was produced, and it only cost them 25Dirham.
Well, trust me the world is saturated with these kind of workers, don’t be surprised when you receive an email from the account department in the UN, with the signing person putting his designation as Su pervisor in one and Super visor in another. How do you fathom this? It is sad, however, they are available everywhere and they are cheap.
So much is being advertised about human capital, the understanding and the need of this. But, when you come across stupid employees much too often, you can only ask, has human capital all gone wrong in many places or it is not a criteria anymore due to the fact that good/smart candidates cost the mullah.
