Novalgin Vs Profenid

After my visit to the first doctor, I was prescribed with Novalgin FTBL. Some reading from the online search convinced me not to go ahead with the consumption of the drug. Hence, the prescription is still sitting in my bedside drawer.

Last Monday, I went to see the Neurologist as referred to by the first doctor. His look was not convincing at all, but after a regime of tests that he did on me, I was happy to know that he is indeed a good Neurologist. I was then referred to an Orthopedic, to this I let out a sigh, as it is not easy to get a specialist who speaks English here.

I was also put to undergo 10x of physiotherapy, however, since they will be closing for almost two weeks towards the end December, I asked if it is possible for me to do the physiotherapy beginning January, 2010. Yes, I can but meanwhile I was prescribed to take Profenid 100mg.

Profenid is a nonsteroid anti-inflammatory drug. It is used for short term treatment of joints inflammation (tendonitis, bursitis, acute shoulder pain); acute pain of osteoarthritis; acute lumbar pain (lower back pain); joints inflammation due to crystal deposits such as gout; acute pain related to irritation of a nerve such as sciatica. Alright sounds like a great solution to my acute left shoulder and arm pain. However, reading online also raised a lot of questions, especially when it was published that this drug is commonly being dispensed in third world countries like Bangladesh, Indonesia, Mexico etc, and was discontinued in the USA almost 3 years back.

Taking both the above-mentioned drugs will lead to other complication and side effects which I am not willing to take. So I guess this is modern medicine huh!!!, they will find solutions to the symptoms but not the sickness.

Therefore, I am drug free for now but suffering in pain.
