My Unaccompanied Minor

“If your child is travelling alone, the Airlines Special Assistance Crew is on hand to provide friendly reassurance and guidance. They have special programs for children.

If there is a long wait before boarding, your child is invited to relax and enjoy some light refreshments at the Airlines Special Assistance Lounge. When it is time to board, they will be accompanied to the boarding gate and handed over to the cabin crew, who will make sure they are comfortably settled.

On arrival, their staff will accompany your child through immigration and baggage collection, before handing your child over to the appointed guardian at the arrival gate”.

The above message was clearly printed together with the e-ticket for my little angel. As a minor she is travelling alone, and I have made the arrangement with the travel agent for her to travel as an unaccompanied minor.

Everything went smoothly as I was monitoring her check in by one of the boarding house representative, and she called me again once she was seated in the plane, at that point of time she was alone and does not know who will be sitting next to her. I wished her a safe and pleasant journey before she switched off her mobile.

I learned later that she was seated next to an old fat obnoxious Australian man. He got her chatting, and at her age all questions were answered innocently. She was never comfortable chatting with strangers, but given her situation in the plane, she was left with no choice. He was engaging her in an intimidating adult flirting manner, which as a mother I would consider as a kind of sexual harassment. This is totally totally unacceptable.

Upon her arrival she was handed over to the ground staff. The escort this time was a young male staff, at one point when they were in the elevator together he was mumbling to her whether he can be her friend and get to know her. Being the smart little angel she pretended that she could not hear the question the guy was asking, even when he repeated himself. She was so happy when the elevator door finally opened allowing them to get out and be with the public in the arrival hall.

Not one to give up and after the immigration check point, the idiotic guy while walking her to be given to her elder sister asked her a final question. “Can I have your Facebook then”, to which my smart angel again quickly replied, “Sorry, I don’t have one”.

I am pissed mad with this airline and I am writing to them for an explanation before we start brawling in a legal suite. They gave me through the travel agent a statement that I presumed will protect my daughter against any predator and to make her journey as safe and as comfortable as possible.

I hate you too!!!
