My little angel arrived home from school and was all excited to let me know what had happened to her. This is a routine thing between us; however, on certain days the excitement is more intensified.
Her class was appointed to work together with an ‘ORF Artist in Residence’ Oskar Stocker for the Giving a face to the people of all nations project. The idea of the project is to show each person as a unique individual, regardless of origin, skin color, gender, religion, wealth, and political or other creed, in conjunction of the Human Rights celebration.
The artist concerned had painted 124 large oil portraits of people from 124 nations which are joined together to form a single painted surface over 150 meters long. None of these individual pictures stands alone. Each is a part of this unique ‘panorama of humanity’ that was on display at the Rotunda.
The kids were randomly interviewed by a local TV station on their thoughts of the panorama, and yes my little angel was one among two chosen. She was also requested to read one of the human rights declarations in her own mother tongue. According to her she was so so nervous that she started to perspire from her nose, armpit and upper lips (lol). The interview was then telecast over the local TV here, however, whatever she said was translated………….in yeah German (gosh).
Her friends were thrilled to see her the next day after her minute fame on TV, and one of the male teachers jokingly stoped her along the corridor to ask for her autograph. I can only laugh listening to her telling me all this.
I am ever so proud of you.
